
Four years after the death of football legend Diego Maradona, seven medical specialists will confront the judicial investigation next week regarding the accusations of negligence in the final days of the life of the world champion of 1986. More than 100 witnesses, including family members of Maradona and doctors who treated the former Napoli star over many years, are expected to provide testimony over the course of four months starting from Tuesday in San Isidro, in the province of Buenos Aires. In case they are found guilty, the seven accused could face up to 25 years of prison. Diego Armando Maradona died on November 25, 2020, at 60 years old, during a time of recovery following surgery on his brain due to a blood clot, the result of a decades-long battle with addiction to cocaine and alcohol, which led to problems with his lungs, liver, heart, and nervous system. He was found dead in his rented apartment in the luxury Tigre area north of the city, after being discharged from the clinic two weeks after the operation, it was revealed that he died of a heart attack.
